Security Update 2006-008 Special Report: Some QuickTime for Java applications broken
MacFixIt reader Bob Gonsalves reports that some QuickTime for Java applications are non-functional after application of Security Update 2006-008. While it is to be expected that Quartz Composer compositions in unsigned Java applets will be non-functional after the update (its intended effect), not all broken apps fall into this category.
Bob writes: "Java applications that were compiled to run under Java 1.4.2 and use Quicktime for Java are broken on Core 2 Duo machines (from the factory) and Core Duo machines after the latest security update, which affects Quicktime for Java. The QTJava.zip file is now compiled for Java 1.5 and applications will throw a version mismatch error the first time they access the QTJ libraries."
