Security Update 2006-007 Special Report: AirPort connectivity: Loss of
Some users have reported loss of AirPort card recognition and other wireless connectivity issues after applying Security Update 2006-007.
Card not recognized One reader writes: "I applied the update to my MacBook Pro. Upon reboot, it failed to load the Airport driver card, and the system no longer recognizes that it has the card."
In many cases, resetting the NVRAM can resolve this issue. The process is as follows: Shut down your Mac, then start it back up while immediately holding the following keys: Command, Option, P and R. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
Cannot connect to wireless networks MacFixIt reader Hugo Heriz-Smith writes: "After applying Security Update 2006-007 yesterday, my airport card doesn't sense any wireless networks once it's put to sleep. A restart fixes this - but once it goes to sleep, another restart is required to regain functionality of the card."
Many users are finding relief from these issues with workarounds listed in our AirPort tutorial.
MacFixIt reader Joe reports success with removal of the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder (or its contents). Joe writes: "I lost my Airport Express signal after the install and could not connect to the internet after installing Security Update 2006-007. Removing the SystemConfiguration file worked. After I deleted it, I unplugged the AirPort Express from power and Ethernet, waited 5 minutes then reconnected -- problem solved"
