Router DHCP addresses not working?: a potential solution

CNET staff
Rich Long found that he could not get his MacSense XRouter Pro (MIH-130A) to work with DHCP and Mac OS X 10.0.2. But he found a solution. He writes:

"The symptom I saw was that the Mac would receive an address, network access would work once or twice (say, one Web page load), and then the network stack would seemingly die. There was no link activity, per the device LEDs. Mac OS 9.1 clients worked flawlessly. MacSense support informed me that this is a known problem, and they advised use of a static IP on the Mac OS X system.

After discussion with a friend who has a similar setup, we found a work-around. My friend's XRouter was configured to give out 50 DHCP addresses starting at 49. My XRouter was configured (factory default) to give out 50 addresses starting at 100. Aha! Two digits vs. three digits! I configured my XRouter to also start at 49, and lo! Mac OS X DHCP clients now work fine."
