Rewind: update message a false alarm

CNET staff
A reader reports that Rewind 1.1 informed him is yesterday that there was a new version available, which turned out to be a false message. The reader writes:

"This morning my G4 displayed a small window indicating there was a new version of Rewind available at poweronsoftware.com. I run Rewind regularly and have had no problems with it: it actually saved me several times. The message says to use the installer off the disk to automatically update the software. However, after the update process the same version was reinstalled. I went to the Web site and found no new version mentioned. Now I have lost any backup I had and every time I restart I still get the new version available message. I wrote PowerOn about the issue, and received this reply:

There is a fluke in Rewind that pops up the update message on the 13th of every month each time your computer starts up. We are releasing an actual update to Rewind in just a couple of weeks which among other things will fix that fluke. In the meantime just ignore the message."
