QuickTime 7.1.6 special report: Flip4Mac broken

CNET staff

We've received several reports from readers for whom the ability to playback WMV files with Flip4Mac is broken after updating to QuickTime 7.1.6.

MacFixIt reader Michael writes:

"After I upgraded to QuickTime 7.1.6 I can no longer play WMA files through Flip4Mac."

Flip4Mac announced a "new" release of its WMV components for QuickTime -- version 2.1.1 However, the Flip4Mac download page lists version 2.1.1.7, which has been available since April 26th.

Telestream subsequently confirmed that the Flip4Mac 2.1.1.70 release posted on May 3 is the same build as the 2.1.1.70 posted at the end of April.

Still, simply re-installing the current release of Flip4Mac can provide relief for this issue in some cases.
