QuarkXPress installer bypasses need for floppy disk

A Quark web page states: "With version 4.04, Quark has released a Macintosh CD Install that does not require the use of a floppy disk, which will allow QuarkXPress to be installed on the iMac and new PowerMac G3s." As I understand it, although 4.04 has been around since last year, this new CD Install just became available this month.

Dale Sorenson adds some details: "According to Quark Customer Service the new installer is a CD-ROM and a validation code. Apparently the code is an encrypted version of the serial number. The installer asks the user to type in the code and then translates it into the serial number. Once the program is installed, it displays the serial number and not the validation code."

Update: Tom Stovall adds: "You have always been able to install Quark on an iMac by turning the Installation and User Registration disks into floppy images with Disk Copy. I've done this many times. However the problem comes with copies of Quark that are 'dongle inhibited.' To the best of my knowledge Quark still has no iMac Solution for this problem other than use the Griffin Technologies ADB to USB adapter."

Note: However, to turn the disks into floppy images requires that you have a floppy disk drive for the iMac (in which case you probably don't need to bother with this anyway), or access to a floppy drive in another Mac networked to the iMac.
