QuarkXpress 6.1.x: Losing images in network-saved documents

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader Rob White describes an issue where QuarkXpress 6.1.x loses images that were embedded in documents when said documents are saved to a file server.

"Using Quark Xpress 6.1.x running Mac OS X 10.3.5 fully patched up, we've noticed a number of Quark files have lost their association with EPS file types ONLY in preview! We've had to manually re-associate the files as they come up with just a grey, generic 'placeholder' when opened. They are being saved to a Mac G5 Xserve running Mac OS X 10.3.5 Server also.

We previously noted that QuarkXpress will corrupt some older documents when saved over the network. The results of the file corruption can include missing images and text, blank box elements and more.

Files affected include documents created in QuarkXPress version 4.x or 5.x being re-saved by QuarkXPress 6.1 over network using AFP (Apple File Protocol).

Oddly, the problem does not seem to affect QuarkXpress 6.0.
