QPS drive and Toast Ken Jenkins was told by QPS that their QUE 8x4x32 FireWire CDRW will not support Adaptec Toast 4.1. Instead, those who buy the drive are stuck with Toast 4.0.1.1. However, based on info in a previous item, we wonder if Discribe may work. Update: Several readers have replied that they are successfully using this drive with Toast 4.1. The recommendation is to delete the QPS FireWIre extension from the Extensions folder and, if necessary, use the Toast FireWire extension instead. (Thanks, George Hart, Marc Teller and others.) Ken Jenkins now confirms that this works. More generally, check this Web page for "known issues" with Toast. Monitor sleep on startup Does you monitor go to "sleep" on startup? This MacFixIt Forums thread offers some advice. Modem connection troubleshooting Apple has updated TIL article #24803 on "Troubleshooting Unreliable Modem Connections." Web site freezes Explorer 5 FinancialWeb.com is yet another site that will hang Internet Explorer 5.0, even though it loads fine in Explorer 4.5 and Netscape 4.7. The problem may be linked to the site's use of JavaScript (see previous coverage in Troubleshooting Explorer 5 MacFixIt Report). (Thanks, Ken Doyle.) Ethernet Update item updated We updated yesterday's item on Apple's Ethernet Update 1.0 several times over the course of the day. Check out the latest version in case you missed it.
