Palm technical support confirms Tungsten incompatibility

Palm technical support confirms Tungsten incompatibility

CNET staff

We previously noted problems synchronizing Palm Tungsten models in an initial Mac OS X 10.2.3 troubleshooting report.

Now Jim Busis reports that Palm's technical support department has finally confirmed the issue (which seems to only affect a portion of users) and may be working on a fix:

"A Palm technical support representative has just told me that the Tungsten hot sync does not work under Mac OS X 10.2.3. She said that at this point the only options are to downgrade to 10.2.2 or use System 9. (I am able to hot sync without problems if I boot in System 9.2.2.)

"She 'imagines' they're working on a fix that will eventually be posted on the web, and that they eventually will post on the web that Tungsten doesn't work with 10.2.3. She also said that the version of the Palm software available on the web for download does not work with the Tungsten."

UPDATE: Marc Bizer notes that for some users, setting "Enable HotSync software at system startup" through Palm Desktop's preferences may be necessary to have successful synchronizations. Also, on some systems, Mac OS X 10.2.3 does not recognize the hardware button on the HotSync cradle or cable.
