Palm Desktop Software for Macintosh v2.6.1 is out

Palm has released Palm Desktop Software for Macintosh v2.6.1 is for use with any Palm handheld. Its main new feature is new HotSync v2.6.1 software. You can also now connect a Palm to a Mac via USB via the PalmConnect USB Kit. Palm adds: "Users of Palm Desktop v2.5 and above can download the HotSync v2.6.1 Update instead of the complete Installer." It was not entirely clear whether the result of using just this updater would yield the same end result as using the complete Installer, but we believe this is the case. Palm identifies the main symptoms fixed by this Update: When running Mac OS 9.0.2 or greater, "HotSync operations may time out and return an error message when synchronizing with conduits for certain applications, including Meeting Maker and Outlook Express. Other conduits with "long" synchronization times such as AvantGo may also be affected." [See Troubleshooting Mac OS 9.0.x for much more detail on this matter.]
