Palm Desktop 4.0 & Visor: a follow-up

CNET staff
Assuming you want to risk using the new Palm software with the Visor at all (see yesterday's item), Aaron Walker confirms Scott Drummey's explanation [remove all prior Palm software, especially all the OS updates from the Palm OS Updates folder] and prefers this solution to other suggestions for using a Handspring with Palm Desktop 4.0. With this solution, it should still be possible to install applications onto the Visor with this solution."

Several other users noted similar information:

Stephen Smith writes: "I also had the problem of my Visor Deluxe having to be reset each time I performed a HotSync. I noted that update 3.1 was being installed at each HotSync. I moved contents of the Updates folder to another location on my hard drive and the problem was solved."

Dan Malloy writes: "After some searching I found the Palm OS Updates folder in the main Palm folder and trashed the 3.1.3 update folder. This got rid of the 'installing installer 3.1.3' with each HotSync."

Devin Brennan noted: "Trouble was the release version attempts to install an incompatible piece of software called "Installer 3.5.3". I dug around and found that the reason it was doing this was that there was a Palm OS 3.5.3 upgrade folder in my Applications/Palm/Palm Upgrades/ folder. I removed this and it no longer attempted to install the bad installer which is probably incompatible with Handspring because they use Palm OS v. 3.5.2h."
