Indeed, the VersionTracker feedback page for the new firmware update includes numerous reports of decreased signal strength and range. Several users have had success downloading older firmware and re-flashing their routers to revert to previous firmware versions.

iPod as a universal remote control? The popular engadget.com website has posted an article on how to turn your iPod into a universal infrared remote control. The procedure involves "recording" the infrared signals from other remotes, converting them to audio signals, and then storing them as audio files on an iPod; a sound-to-infrared inverter (Griffin's Total Remote) was then added to the iPod to broadcast the IR signal via the iPod's headphone jack.
