Odds and Ends: Improper icon showing for inserted media/disk images; Site note

CNET staff

Improper icon showing for inserted media/disk images Sometimes, when you insert an audio CD or mount a disk image, an incorrect icon will appear in Mac OS X's standard media sidebar. For instance, in-house, an audio CD recently assumed the icon of a PDF document.

Generally, simply accessing the Get Info window (use the keyboard combination Command-I), then selecting the improper icon, and pressing the "Delete" key will restore the proper icon.

Site note: Junk mail and descriptive subjects, complimentary pro subscriptions Over the past few weeks MacFixIt's mailboxes have been inundated with junk mail. Generally we receive a few hundred of these messages daily, but over the past month or so the number has climbed into the thousands on some days. Despite our best efforts to filter the incoming messages, many pieces of spam steamroll through.

In order to help combat this trend, we ask that you use descriptive subjects for the messages sent to late-breakers@macfixit.com. Doing so helps us to more ably pluck the valid messages from the inevitable pile of junk.

Also, remember that from time to time we award complimentary MacFixIt Pro subscriptions to our most avid contributors, so keep those submissions coming!
