iMac G5 benefits greatly from setting processor speed to highest MacFixIt reader Mark Rhodes reports that switching the processor performance setting in the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences to "Highest" rather than "Automatic" resulted in a dramatic speed boost for his iMac G5.

Mark writes:

"I was having a bad time with my brand new iMac G5 performing very sluggish. I upgraded from an eMac (G4 1.25), and I was very disappointed with the G5 performance. I almost went back to the eMac when I read on this other forum about setting the processor performance level to Highest. It is located under the Options of the Energy Saver System Preferences. Now this thing smokes. It's like night and day. There was some ambivalence about leaving it on this setting all the time, and I'd like to hear any thoughts about that. There's almost no reason to have this machine unless one can leave it set to fastest. I'm loving it."
