Odds & Ends: Resetting an iBook; Find by Content problems; more

CNET staff
Resetting an iBook Apple continues its tradition of finding new and often not obvious locations for the reset button. A new TIL article (#58416) states that the reset button on the iBook: "is located directly above the power button on the keyboard between the narrow air vents. You can press the reset button by inserting the end of a paper clip into the small reset hole and gently pressing the switch once." The TIL article also notes that, unlike the iMac (see previous item), the iBook can use the Control-Command-Power keyboard combination as a reset button equivalent.

Solving problems with Find by Content An Apple TIL article (#24976) offers suggestions for what to do if Sherlock's Find by Content option will not index files. In brief, try running Disk First Aid. If that fails, delete the visible FBC Indexing Preferences and FBC Indexing Scheduler files and the invisible TheFindByContentFolder and TheFindByContentIndex files.

Duplicate Profile bug: still biting users Readers are still complaining about losing files due to the "Duplicate Profile bug." The promised update cannot come soon enough.

It's back! After being temporarily withdrawn, the MacLink Plus 11.001 update has returned (thanks, Bernie Olding).
