PC-133 vs. PC-100 RAM confusion redux Readers continue to report that PC-133 RAM is identified as PC-100 RAM in latest versions of Apple System Profiler. For example, Matt Darr writes: "I am using a 400MHz G4 with a 100MHz bus. I got a 256MB DIMM of PC-133 RAM and installed it. Everything worked fine and Apple System Profiler in OS 9.1 recognized the RAM for what it was. Now that I upgraded to OS/X the Apple System Profiler sees it as 128MB and PC-100 in both Classic and OS/X versions." Daniel Lefresne sent a confirming report. See also our previous coverage.

GoMac 2.1 and Adobe apps conflict? We have now received two reports of GoMac 2.1 preventing the launch of Adobe applications. Chris McClellan found that he could not launch PageMaker 7.0 while GoMac was installed. Gregor Schmidpeter found that he could not launch InDesign 1.5.2 "properly" if GoMac was installed. For example the command "Quit" would not appear in the File menu. Disabling GoMac or downgrading back to GoMac 2.0.3 eliminated the problem. Update: Laurie Duncan did not have this problem.

Blue-and-White G3s and FireWire: a problem? Andrew Duncan finds that blue-and-white Power Mac G3s have problems accessing FireWire-connected drives (a freeze typically occurs when trying), even with the latest firmware updates installed. If you have any info on this matter, let us know.

Update: Lew Nelson has not found any problems with this combo. Mike Lane confirms problems: "I get random messages that the FireWire device has stopped responding, requiring a forced restart. When I use the drive on my FireWire PowerBook, I do not get the error message."

DVD Player update causes a crash? Peter Seebach writes: "My G3 FireWire PowerBook came with Apple DVD Player 2.3. If I apply the 2.4 or 2.7 update, it still plays DVD's - but sometimes crashes. On a disk where it crashes, it will always crash at exactly the same place. This goes away if I take out 2.7 and replace it with 2.3 again."

mac.com down today? We are getting several reports this morning that mac.com is down again. <sigh>
