BackupBuddy does not work with Palm Desktop 4.0 A reader received the following note from Blue Nomad: "BackupBuddy for the Mac hasn't been upgraded yet. It won't work with the new Palm Desktop 4.0 for Mac. We are working on a new version for the Macintosh."

Update: Stuart Rich also received a note from Blue Nomad; it was more ambivalent as to whether the promised upgrade would support OS X.

QuickTime, GoLive and OS X: a conflict? Don Saar generated QuickTime movies from Final Cut Pro 3, placed the movies into Adobe GoLive 6.0 and then tried to preview these movies in Netscape, IE and Opera. This resulted in an error message that said: QuickTime is missing software to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the QuickTime Server." Adobe advised redoing the movies in Mac OS 9.2.2 Classic mode and then applying these QuickTime movies to GoLive 6.0 within Classic. This worked. He could then preview these embedded QuickTime movies within all of the browsers.

Deinstaller mishap Thomas Thatcher had a problem where, after uninstalling iTunes 2.0.3 with Deinstaller 1.0.1 followed by an installation of iTunes 2.0.4, he had a blue screen startup crash. He had to completely reinstall Mac OS X to fix it. Simply dragging the old iTunes to the Trash and installing iTunes 2.0.4 did not cause this problem to occur.

Update: Thomas replies: " Deinstaller was not the cause after all. The reason turned out to possibly be from a defective Maxtor ATA 7200 60 GB hard drive, factory installed in my Quicksilver 867. I posted to the MacFixIt Forums about it."

Microtech driver works with Kodak card reader Trevor Kuntz found that the Microtech Compact Flash Card Reader worked in OS X when used with the card reader that came with his Kodak DC3800 camera.

The beta drivers will be emailed to them when we have a list of users willing to participate."

Quark 5 Multiuser license agreement Peter Anton spotted this interesting tidbit in the Quark 5 Multiuser license agreement: "End User acknowledges that QLA utilizes a secured communications link between End User and Quark, via the Internet or technology which may hereinafter become available, by virtue of which license files are made available to End User and information concerning End User's usage may be transmitted to Quark. End User may elect not to use Auxiliary Licenses in which case End User’s rights are limited to Purchased Licenses."

CDNOW plans to look into Mac problem, but without a Mac to look at John McCauley writes: "After being frustrated that audio clips at CDNOW intended for Windows Media Player will not play with WMP 7 under OS X, I wrote CDNOW. They replied: 'Unfortunately, we do not have a Mac available for testing. I do not believe that there are any plans of us getting one in the future. We have recently reported that there may be a problem with Windows Media Clips being played on Macs. I am sure that the tech team will look into this.'"

Update: Stephen Dupont replies: "There is a work around: Control-click the WMP link and save it to the desktop. Then open the saved file from within WMP. The file should play."
