Heads up! New Macs coming On August 12, Apple will introduce several new high-end Power Macintosh G3 series models. They will have higher clock speeds (333 MHz and 366 MHz) at lower cost. They also include support of more than 2 IDE devices. And of course, the iMac arrives on the 15th.

Global Village V.90 "work-around" script: a follow-up Regarding the Global Village work-around script for problems with x2 modems upgraded to V.90 (as mentioned here last time): B. Allyn claims that it did not merely revert his modem back to x2, it reverted it "all the way back to something previous to V.34. I can't get connect speeds higher than 14,400 with the work-around script." After discussing this with Global Village tech support, they told him to return the modem and they'd "swap it for an older, non-upgraded x2."

PB G3 Series display problem reported The PowerBook Memory Source reports a display problem on PowerBook G3 Series (250/13.3) that seems to be related to a loose or, more than likely, cracked video cable which feeds to the display. They suggest a possible work-around.

Initio Miles glitch? Jacob Glazer writes: "Macintosh computers with Initio Miles SCSI cards crash when they use a drive through the card as a scratch disk in Photoshop. The bug was reported to Initio as early as June 5th, and they have yet to find a fix. 'That is why I didn't buy a Macintosh' said Tech support at Initio in a recent conversation about this problem." This sounds similar to a previously reported problem with virtual/extended memory; Initio has promised a fix for this. Meanwhile, David Papas already replies that he does not have this Photoshop problem.
