Formac SCSI card for iMac: a follow-up Last week, we reported that a reader "could not startup his revision B iMac after installing the Formac iProRaid UW-SCSI card...unless the card was terminated." Several other readers have not seen this problem. Their iMacs start up just fine, even without any termination. It looks like this is not a general issue.

Update: One reader notes that the card comes with PowerRaid Control. It includes an auto-termination option. If you are having problems, make sure this was not set to "off." Formac tech support also warned him against using the card with a UMAX scanner.

The iMac.com web site has a page on adding SCSI cards to the iMac.

Another Trojan Horse? A reader reports that "StarCraft Beta - BattleNet patch" is another file, found mainly on Hotline servers, that is a Trojan Horse.

Personality Card issue? Rio Sabadicci writes: "The hard drive for my 233MHz G3 kept spinning down (at times that it should not have) after upgrading the RAM to 128MB. Apple Customer Service told me there is a problem with the Personality Cards in these machines. I re-seated the card and the problem went away. Anyone experiencing this problem may be eligible to have the Personality Card replaced for free by an Apple authorized technician."

StuffIt alternatives For those having problems with Aladdin's StuffIt products, readers continue to suggest alternatives. Some recent suggestions include MacZip (for zip files) and MacBinary III (for bin files).

Insignia updates Insignia has released SoftWindows 5.0.5 and RealPC 1.0.5.

Optima is gone? A reader had been having trouble getting a response from Optima Technology. He finally received a note that said "Optima closed it's doors on 02/26/99." I did not see any mention of this on their web site.
