iTunes AAC best 128k codec According to a RareWares.org test -- one of the more statistically sound studies we've seen, iTunes' AAC codec is currently tops among 128k audio compression codecs. In addition, "according to a key developer of the QuickTime/iTunes AAC encoder, this codec nearly didn't get tuned since the last test because they were busy with porting the iTunes platform to Windows and working on speed optimization. Makes one wonder how much it can improve once the engineers start tuning it again and if a VBR mode is eventually implemented." More.

Finder co-designer on the current Mac OS interface In a MacMinute interview, Steve Capps, a co-designer of the original Finder and Mac OS interface, comments on the current state of the Mac OS: "As for Apple's current hardware and software line, the industrial design, the integration between hardware and software, and the attention to details, are great "as expected," he says. On the other hand, he finds Mac OS X "pretty boring." More.

iPod: Size isn't everything According to a Macworld UK poll, "Macworld readers are split over the need for huge iPod capacity, with 17 per cent convinced that the 4GB offered by the iPod mini is "fine", yet 16 per cent saying 80GB is needed to fulfill their requirements." More.
