iMac G5 'computer of the year' The Washington Times hails Apple's iMac G5 as the "computer of the year" in its annual round-up of holiday lust items. The paper writes "It will cost close to $2,100 to get the super-sized 20-inch model with extra RAM and a wireless keyboard and mouse. That's a relatively high price in this age of far-less-expensive Windows-based machines. But Apple Computers IMac G5 is a very impressive machine. It earns top honors from this column, and might well earn a top spot on your holiday shopping list." More.

Mac OS X screen-saver combats spam The BBC reports that Internet portal Lycos has made a screen-saver that "endlessly requests data from sites that sell the goods and services mentioned in spam e-mail. Lycos hopes it will make the monthly bandwidth bills of spammers soar by keeping their servers running flat out." The screen-saver is already available for download, in both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 versions. More.

Sony unveils colorful Walkman hard drive MP3 player After failing to gain traction with its original hard drive based MP3 player that used the proprietary ATRAC format, Sony has announced a new player -- the NW-HD3 -- that comes in five colors, and is purported to play 2.5 times longer on one battery charge than iPod's 12 hours.
