Apple, Real exchange jabs over iPod "hack" After Apple accused RealNetworks of "hacking" in the latter company's attempt to make songs bought on its "Harmony" service compatible with iPods and warned that future software revisions would make the "hack" incompatible, RealNetworks has fired back arguing that consumer choice is key. An article on vnunet quotes Real officials stating "Consumers, and not Apple, should be the ones choosing what music goes on their iPod." RealNetworks went on to claim that Harmony follows a well-established tradition of legal, independent development that bypasses proprietary formats to achieve compatibility. More.
