PowerBooks: prices cut; promotion ended early According to a cnet.com article, "Apple plans to drop the price of the 400MHz PowerBook G4 by $400 to $2,199 and slash the price of the 500MHz model by $500 to $2,999, according to a Macintosh reseller familiar with Apple's plans for the high-end notebook." A related article states: "Apple Computer, which had said it would give a free CD burner to customers who buy a Titanium PowerBook G4 before Sept. 3, now plans to end the promotion Friday, one day before it is expected to cut prices on the laptops."

Can't signin to Apple site? We wanted to check on some KnowledgeBase articles and Discussions threads on Apple's site, but page loading stops "login" because "signin.info.apple.com" won't load. Deleting cookies had no effect. Any one know what is going on? Update: It is working again for now.

Forums bug resolved We had a problem with the MacFixIt Forums database earlier this week that prevented some users (primarily those creating a new registration) from logging in. It should now be fixed. So, if you had this problem, please try again. You may need to create your account again.

Search engine: No results error At the busiest times of day, the MacFixIt search engine may fail to post results of a search. This is due to a server overload triggered by the much higher than normal traffic this week due to Mac OS 9.2.1. We are working to fix this.
