Netscape Communicator 4.5: what's new

CNET staff
Steve Dagley informs us: The official Netscape description of the Communicator 4.5 release is viewable. From there you will find links to detailed descriptions of the cross platform Navigator and Messenger improvements in addition to details on new features like Roaming Access and the Quality Feedback Agent. As for the Mac specific changes in 4.5 - here's a list of the major ones:
  • Improvement in memory cache performance, most noticeable in page back/forward speed
  • Command-click opens a link in a new window
  • Implementation of the Personal Toolbar for the Mac
  • Implementation of URL Autocompletion for the Mac
  • Optimization to reduce cases of multiple re-draw due to a charset tag
  • Improvements in printing: Can now print CGI-generated pages Printing forms shows user's changes rather than just default form. Scale to fit a page. Elimination of extra blank pages
  • View source on CGI-generated page (good for CGI scripters)
  • Implementation of font size increase/decrease command
  • Addition of several new/missing commands to the contextual menu popup
  • Improved caching of the mail, news and address book database files
  • Fixed a memory corruption/leak bug with the Java VM/Java Accelerator

To answer the question on what changed from the original 4.5 release and the revision pushed on 10/21: It fixes for a potential hang when doing a LDAP directory replication and a crasher when encountering a corrupted cert DB file.
