Multiple Users 1.3: a follow-up

Multiple Users 1.3: a follow-up

CNET staff
In our item yesterday on the Multiple Users 1.3 Update, we stated that "Reports suggest that this update will only appear in the Software Update control panel when run on Apple's newest hardware (G4s, iMac DVs, etc.)." It seems that this statement is not entirely correct. We now have reports of people getting this update for a 33MHz iMac, a Wall Street PowerBook, and a PowerBook 3400 (we finally got it to appear on our 3400 after installing a new version of the Software Update control panel and restarting). Adding to this confusion, Frank Sinkavich informs us that the Update did not appear on his G4/500. We can only assume that some of this is due to the inconsistent performance of the servers Apple uses to deliver the update and that the situation will stabilize within a few days when demand for the new update is reduced. Also note that, as is generally true for software accessed via the Software Update control panel, the panel will not list an update if the older version of the software is not presently installed on your drive. For extensions and control panels, the software must also be enabled (e.g., not in the "disabled" folders of the System Folder). (Thanks, L. Ford.)
