Microsoft on Word's Disk Full error

Microsoft on Word's Disk Full error

CNET staff
We have previously covered Microsoft's "disk full" bug both in Word 98 and Word 2001. In the worst case, this serious bug can result in you losing the contents of a saved document. As such, we cited the Word 98 bug as one of the Top Troubleshooting Stories of 1999.

We recently noted this Microsoft support page which provides all the details about this bug and how to work-around it. It states:

The original Word 98 Disk Full error was indeed fixed for Word 2001. This is a new error that has similar characteristics, but is experienced far less frequently than the original Word 98 Disk Full error. The new Disk Full Error occurs when a person saves the document they are working on upwards of 60 times during a short period of time. With File Sharing turned on, a user can only save a document approximately 60 times before they experience the error. With File Sharing turned off, they can save approximately 250 times.
