Mail.app and Microsoft Word attachment quirk

Mail.app and Microsoft Word attachment quirk

CNET staff

We have confirmed in-house a problem with Apple's latest version of Mail.app, running under Mac OS X 10.2.3 and Microsoft Word formatted attachments.

If you type part of an e-mail message, then drag a Microsoft Word formatted (.doc) document into the message pane it will appear as an icon in the body text. If you continue typing in the space after the attachment icon, the text will not be visible as part of the body, and will rather be generated as a text attachment.

In most cases, the plain text attachment (with a cryptic name like ATT60170.txt) will simply go ignored leaving out sometimes valuable parts of messages.

This bug occurs when viewing the sent messages in either Entourage or Mail.app.
