At Macworld Expo last week, ATI was showing off its forthcoming Radeon GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). AGP and PCI versions will ship in September. It will compete with the new Voodoo 5 5500 PCI graphics accelerator from 3dfx, with 64 MB of graphics memory. Orange Micro showed a USBoard 2.0 PCI board. Backwards compatible with USB 1.1 peripherals, it can boost USB speeds (with new devices) from USB 1.1's 12 Mbits/s to 480 Mbits/s. Imation unveiled its Travan FireWire 20GB drive (available in the fourth quarter). Castlewood was giving a peak at a new MP3 recorder/player that can connect to your computer or function as a stand-alone unit. LaCie was showing a forthcoming double-capacity DVD-RAM drive and new FireWire CD-RW drives. XLR8 announced that it would soon be shipping a MACh Fire CardBus.
