Mac OS X 10.4.4 Special Report: Windows sharing issues

Related to our Active Directory coverage (also in this report), some users are experiencing problems connecting to Mac OS X SMB-based sharepoints from Windows clients.

One reader writes:

"I used the software sharepoints to create a shared directory and the windows computers had no trouble connecting to the share (SMB) and using it for common storage.

"After the Mac OS X 10.4.4 update, the windows clients took a considerably longer time just to connect, and browsing directories was painfully slow. Additionally, trying to access a file (30k or so) took a minute to pull up, and when trying to save it back to the shared mac directory, windows generated an error that indicated the disk was full or that there was an interruption to the network connection.

"I spent an afternoon troubleshooting... rebuilt permissions, reinstalled 10.4.4 from the combo update, ran DiskWarrior on all drives etc.... but ultimately I had to clean install Tiger from the DVD and update it only to Mac OS X 10.4.3. Things are back to normal now."
