Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) from a Troubleshooting Perspective #1: Fast user switching

CNET staff

Those of us with exclusive physical access to our Macs will probably not make too much use of Mac OS X 10.3's new fast user switching function from a practical perspective. However, this feature is a boon from a troubleshooting perspective.

If you're having problems with corrupted preference files, or other user-specific files, you can now simply switch to a "dummy" or any other unaffected account on the fly, possibly temporarily alleviating your issue. In addition, you can pull individual uncorrupted files to replace potentially damaged versions.

You can also create a fresh, new account and instantly switch to it.
