mac.com email: a follow-up

CNET staff

Following up on our recent coverage of problems with mac.com email, we received several messages from users who reported that the fixes we posted yesterday did not work for them. It appears, based n other messages we have received, that mac.com indeed did lose messages, and are in the process of restoring files from a backup. One user told us that hundreds of already read messages suddenly showed up this morning. while another user found that his formerly missing email was there this morning. Mike Protenic writes:

"After a weekend outage, I was swamped this morning with messages on the server dated from January 25th to Feb. 2nd, at which time I suspected that all email from those dates until today would be re-posted to my machine. Before I cut the connection, I received 137 emails, all duplicates of previously received items."
