iTunes 7.4.2 released: address ringtone issue, other bugs

Cryptic release notes as usual.

CNET staff

Apple has released iTunes 7.4.2, a maintenance update for the music playback, purchase and synchronization application. The new release, according to Apple's notes, "addresses an issue with creating ringtones using iTunes Plus song purchases and includes bug fixes to improve stability and performance."

Hopefully this release resolves some of the iPhone sync issues that affected a large number of users under iTunes 7.4 and 7.4.1.

The new release is available as a 38.3MB standalone download.

UPDATE: It appears that this release of iTunes breaks many unofficial methods for adding ringtones to the iPhone.

If your problems have been resolved by this release, or you're experiencing new ones, please let us know.
