iPod: glitches with long tracks?

Evidently iPods are starting to show up in user's hands. Today we received a report from a reader who has received his new iPod. Dan Corjulo writes of potential problems:
  1. An MP3 file longer then 20 minutes does not play correctly. Every 20 minutes the files starts over. This makes using the iPod to listen to spoken lectures of long form music useless.
  2. Fast forward does not work correctly on long files. Advance a file to the 6 or 7 minute mark on iPod and it is a completely different point in the file then if you do the same in itunes. It seems accurate and short 3 minute files. This may be related to the long form problem."

This is the first report we have of this behavior, and as a result have not been able to confirm it. We also should note that iPod's firmware can be updated. We presume that glitches like these can be fixed by Apple eventually. See also previous iPod coverage one, two, and three.

Update: Dan Corjulo offers this added info: "Apple quickly responded to my issues. At this point, the problem only seems to effect certain MP3 files. It does not affect any other file format (wav or aiff). I was able to convert the problem MP3 to wav and they played fine. Apple has a copy of my problem files and is working on them. As for using the device as a hard drive, this works really well. I booted several G4s from the iPod."

Other reports suggest that this long track problem, if it exists at all, may have been limited to preproduction models. Shipping models should work.
