HP DeskJet 895cxi printer and sleep bug

David Toub writes: I'm using an HP DeskJet 895cxi USB printer connected to my PowerBook G3 233 MHz running MacOS 9.0, with 160 MB of installed RAM. I'm using a Macally USB PC card under the Apple drivers (v. 1.3.5). Unpredictably, the PowerBook will crash during print spooling. Interestingly, if I open the Chooser, additional desktop printers for the HP are created, and I can print okay if I transfer the spooled print file to one of the new printers even though it is not the default printer icon (assuming I've recovered using the ES command in MacsBug)." He contacted Hewlett-Packard about this and received the following confirming reply:
"This issue occurs when the Macintosh is put to sleep - each time your Mac wakes up a new printer will be created in the Chooser. This issue is currently under investigation by HP. The work-around is to simply shut your Macintosh down instead of putting it to sleep."
