HP All-in-One Software requires "constant communication"

CNET staff
Jerad Hoff informs us: "Users of the HP G85 multifunction device cannot unplug their USB cable while the printer is connected. If they do, they have to restart their OS X computer in order to print/scan/fax again." HP Tech Support confirms this:

"That is correct, the All-in-One Software requires constant communication with the printer from computer startup. We would recommend turning on the printer before the Mac and leaving it on while the Mac is on. Additionally, allowing the Mac to go to sleep can also disrupt communication. This issue is currently under investigation by Hewlett-Packard."

Update: Mark Bryant suggests: "One way around a reboot is to use Process Viewer to kill "HP All-In One Communications." At this point, go turn off the printer and turn it back on. Then go to /Library/Startup Items/ and fire up HP AIO Communications again. All should then be well."
