Hard Disk SpeedTools and ejecting Zip disks Mirko Kranenburg was unable to eject Zip disks formatted with Hard Disk SpeedTools 3.0 from his SCSI Zip drive. The disk icon would get removed from the desktop, but the disk did not eject. Intech sent him a beta version of an update to HD SpeedTools that fixed the problem. PopChar and AMO conflict? Roanld Leroux found that, after installing PopChar Pro 1.2, I, the hierarchical menus under the Apple menu (created by Apple Menu Options 1.1.7) disappear after viewing the PopChar Pro window. The problem does not occur with v1.1.3 of PopChar Pro. Update: According to the author of PopChar Pro, the problem has to do with a more general bug in AMO [especially likely to occur if you put an alias to the Apple Menu Items folder in the Apple Menu Items folder, thereby creating a potential infinite loop of submenus and leading to other problems]. SnapScan software and G3 upgrade card glitch? Gary Ross was unable to install the ScanWise 1.08 software that came with his AGFA SnpaScan e50 on two older Macs with G3 upgrade cards. It installed fine on two native G3 Macs. He speculates that the "installation software is not smart enough to recognize the G3 upgrade cards." Sonnet 1400 G3 upgrade battery swap glitch? Ronald Chan writes: "Prior to installing a Sonnet 1400 G3 upgrade, I was able to swap batteries while the PowerBook was sleeping. After the upgrade, I noticed that it immediately shuts down while trying to wake it up after swapping batteries. The sleep light continues to blink throughout the swapping and remains blinking after the fresh battery is inserted. However, the light goes out when I try to wake it up, and it won't boot normally until I reset the Power Manager. A work-around I discovered is to have the power adapter plugged in while swapping the batteries." PlusOptimizer tip Ronald Leroux was given the following tip from Alsoft Tech Support: If you use Alsoft's PlusOptimizer to optimize a disk, it will anchor all files that are invisible and whose type and creator are unknown, thus preventing these files from being optimized. This is a safety precaution. However, for certain files, this precaution may be unneeded. For example, all the files in TechTool Pro's invisible TrashCache folder will be anchored unnecessarily. That's why it is a good idea to empty the Cache before optimizing. Alternatively, you can select to unanchor these files from PlusOptimizer.
