GoMac 1.5 problems: a reply from Proteron (new version coming this week)

Regarding the two GoMac 1.5 bugs reported last time, Samuel Caughron (of Proteron) replies: I can confirm both of the bugs. We know about them and are working on a 1.5v1 to be released this week which will address them as well as several other bugs. Until then (as you mentioned in an earlier posting) GoMac 1.4.4 is still available for users who find 1.5 incompatible with software they use often. Also of interest are two more conflicts which we are looking into:

GoMac becomes very unstable if used with RAM Doubler 2.0.2. Apple's virtual memory (which was greatly improved in Mac OS 8.1) is recommended as an alternative. For users of System 7.x, we have been told that RAM Doubler 1.6.2 does not conflict with GoMac.

Also, we have had numerous reports of problems using GoMac with System 7.5.5. Until 1.5v1 is released, users of System 7.5.5 are encouraged either to upgrade to a newer version of the system (7.6.1 and 8.1 are recommended), or return to using GoMac 1.4.4.

Max Schaefer writes that GoMac 1.5 has a bug whereby, when it's in AutoHide mode, dragging a document onto the Start menu (which filters the menu items so that only applications capable of opening that document appear) makes the pop-up menus appear behind the GoMac bar. Proteron has been informed and expects it to be fixed in the forthcoming bug-fix upgrade.

Update Several readers confirm that there is a conflict between GoMac and After Dark. Patrick Lee confirms a display problem, due to GoMac enabled, when waking a PowerBook up from sleep. Proteron is working on a fix for both of these.
