G4 Firmware Update fixes some problems; but is linked to other problems

Still more reports on the recent Apple firmware updates (see previous coverage): Problems fixed Scott Maier writes with a positive report about the recent G4 Firmware update: "As advertised, I no longer get error messages from the startup memory test which used to state it had detected a problem. This would happen only when I had my Sony Spressa USB CD-RW drive plugged in to the computer. Additionally, it seems that it has cured another problem I was having, but it is not listed as one of the fixes by Apple. Whenever my computer would fall asleep when the Sony Spressa USB CDRW drive was connected it would not wake again until I unplugged the drive. Once the drive was unplugged I could wake it up normally. Thankfully I never had to have the burner plugged in very much. After applying the firmware update I have not had a problem with the computer waking from sleep when the drive is connected." Another iKey problem reported Dennis Brunskill describes an odd symptom that appears linked to having a Macally iKey keyboard in use with a Mac that has been updated via the recent Apple firmware updates (the PowerBook update in this case): "When the PB is shut down either with the Finder command or via the Power button, the PowerBook later restarts on its own. This happens whether or not the cover is closed. There are no scheduled start ups in the Energy Saver." [See also this previous report.] ADB glitch Alex Asp writes: "After updating a firmware on G4/450 AGP my Hardware Protection ADB keys attached to it via Griffin Technologies iMate adapter are not recognized by the appropriate software. On non-updated G4's they worked just fine."
