Final Cut Express 3.5 (#2): Crash at startup; Tutorial problems

CNET staff

Users are reporting some issues with the newly release, Universal Binary Final Cut Express 3.5.

Crash at startup MacFixIt reader Mark Feldman reports repeated crashes on startup. He writes:

"I have a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2 GB DDR SDRAM and two internal 250 GB hard drives. I run QuickTime 7.1.0 with OS 10.4.6 on each hard drive and each drive also had a working copy of Final Cut Express 3.0. Upon installing the version 3.5 update, Final Cut Express gets the startup splash screen showing version 3.5 and then immediately crashes. I then started on my other internal disk, installed the update, and had the same results. The installer indicated both installations were successful. All permissions are okay and Disk Utility indicates no problem with either hard drive."

In some cases, this issue can be resolved by first launching the application in an Administrator account and registering it. You should then be able to launch the application in other (non-administrator accounts).

Tutorial issues Warren Harrison, meanwhile, reports issues with launching the tutorial on the included DVD. He writes:

"I just bought it for my 15" MacBook Pro. I cannot run the Tutorial on the DVD that?s included, it says there?s a Library conflict of some sort."
