FileSaver shutdown problem in OS 8.1 confirmed: HDT and PC Exchange conflict is the cause

CNET staff
From a recent Knowledge Base document from Symantec's web site, entitled: Error at Shutdown: PC Exchange 2.2 and Hard Disk Toolkit 2.5: "At shutdown, FileSaver reports errors writing to a hard drive partition formatted with FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 2.5 under OS 8.1. Solution: This is due to a conflict between HDT 2.5 and version 2.2 Apple's PC Exchange control panel, which shipped with OS 8.1. This conflict causes FileSaver to have trouble writing the updated directory information properly when protecting a drive at shutdown. To avoid this problem, disable PC Exchange or use an earlier version of the control panel."

This clearly relates to the Hard Disk ToolKit and PC Exchange conflict described here previously. (Thanks, Matt Van Conant.)
