File corruption and file loss with Word 98; still no word from Microsoft

CNET staff
Stuart Begg writes: "If you create and edit long documents (for me greater than even thirty pages is enough) in Word 98, generally with many tables and graphics embedded then you may be faced with major file corruption of your document. The bug does not appear all the time. It manifests as a loss of formatting in one or many parts of your document (especially tables for me), and a progressive inability to select and repair the damage. There does not appear to be a fix for this bug." Another serious and still not fixed bug is the infamous Save/Work files bug (see previous MacFixIt items one and two.) These and a few other continuing bugs in Word 98 are covered in this closed MacFixIt Forums thread. It is really inexcusable that Microsoft has let these bugs persist for going on two years now.
