Epson Stylus Driver Update 1.0ES: a further reply from Epson

CNET staff
Regarding our previous reports of problems with the Epson Stylus Driver Updater 1.0ES (which is now available again): A representative from Epson's Advanced Product Support group re-asserts that Epson has been unable to duplicate any of these problems. He adds: "I would suspect that the customers who are experiencing issues may be having extension conflicts or that they may not have all the necessary Mac OS or application updates needed for compatibility." He did note that after installing the Update, it is important to: "Select the printer icon in the Chooser and its Port connection. Failure to do this step will occur in an error and is because installation of the updater deletes the preferences. This is the reason we must reselect the printer in the Chooser." Tom Foerster adds: "I was able to choose the file server icon, then click back to the 740 icon, and when I closed the window I got the confirmation that my printer had changed, and it finally stuck." By the way, the Update file has now been renamed MAC_STYLUS_UPDATE_1.SEA.hqx (see also this related item).
