Entegra Hub problem with daisy-chaining: a work-around

CNET staff
Dave Marsh writes: "I received a second Entrega Hub (iMacHub7U) and have had numerous problems with the two hubs daisy-chained. Symptoms include random loss of USB devices (usually the mouse plugged into one of the 10 available hub ports). Entrega confirmed the problem, and are looking into it. They said it appears to be a 'power management' problem. Their current work around is to not plug the linked/daisy-chained hubs directly into either of the iMac's two USB ports, but rather into one of the ports in either end of the iMac's keyboard. Daisy-chaining through the iMac keyboard seems to get around the problem."
Update: Sharon Palmer notes: "At a user group meeting, an Apple Tech went into some details about USB. Apparently there are powered and unpowered hubs and there are some limits as to which can be plugged into which. If I remember correctly, a powered hub can't be plugged into another powered hub, but you can have powered, unpowered, powered." This may be the problem here
