Drive Setup 1.7.x and "the thing"

A web page describes "the thing." It's an odd set of symptoms, including an untitled folder in the Trash that you cannot easily delete, that the page claims can occur if you use a version of Drive Setup 1.7.x to reformat (not just update) your drive. [Note: A search of MacFixIt Archives reveals that we have reported still other problems with Drive Setup 1.7.x.]
Update: Michael Lafferty (Director of Research & Development, SynapTECH) replies about one aspect of the "thing" report:

"In the article, the author states: 'No utility, Apple System Info, TattleTech... can tell [what version of Drive Setup formatted your drive].' He is simply mistaken. The version used is represented by the driver ID found using the Get Info command on the root volume." It's the version number listed in the Where line. For example, Mac OS 9 users with SCSI drives should see "(v8.1.4)." See this TIL article for more listings.

Another TIL article would suggest that downgrading to an older version of Drive Setup is not likely to be a good idea.

Update: Franklin Veaux adds: "Mr. Lafferty's information is not precisely correct. The version listed in Get Info is the version of the driver currently installed. This does not necessarily reflect the version of Drive Setup used to FORMAT the drive. For example, if I format a drive with Drive Setup 1.6 and then update the driver with Drive Setup 1.7, the version reported in Get Info will be consistent with the driver version for 1.7, not 1.6. In sum, the version shown in the Get Info dialog reveals the version of the driver currently installed, not the version of Drive Setup used to format the drive."
