Desktop icon clean ups: other utilities that help

Regarding our previous report of using Desktop Resetter to solve Desktop Cleanup problems: NoDeskTopCleanup (mentioned on MacFixIt before) takes another approach to solving this problem. It adds a dialog box that comes up when you select Clean Up, asking you to confirm that you really want to do this. Another alternative is DesktopMaid, an AppleScript placed in the Startup Folder.

Update SwitchRes is a Control Strip module that also helps maintain icon positions, specific to changes that may occur when switching monitor resolutions. "You can save the position of the icons on your desktop, independently from one resolution to the other, unlike the Finder. The position of the icons is restored at startup. You can also assign a specific resolution to an application, so that every time you use this application, your Mac will automatically switch to the predefined resolution." Sahm Christoph notes that version 2.0 should be out "really soon."
