Create Adobe PDF utility: a follow-up

In the wake of yesterday's coverage, a reader pointed out two key items in troubleshooting section of the Create Adobe PDF Read Me file:

Problem: DistillerLib and DistillerLib Helper files not installed. The DistillerLib and DistillerLib Helper files must be installed in the same folder as a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Distiller application, version 4.0 or later, in order for them to operate properly. If a folder is selected for installation that does not contain Acrobat Distiller, the Installer will not install DistillerLib, DistillerLib Helper or any of the other Create Adobe PDF components, but it will install this Read Me file.

Problem: the "Create Adobe PDF" printer does not appear as a printer to use. One or more of the files necessary for Create Adobe PDF to work has been moved or deleted. Please reinstall the Create Adobe PDF package. If that does not fix your problem, you should also reinstall Acrobat Distiller (some files used by Distiller may have been inadvertently removed).

Update: Peter Trinder adds: "If you have Acrobat 4.0 (full version not Reader) installed already, the Acrobat 5.0 installer will put its stuff into a new folder after verifying your v4.0's serial number from the Registration database on your hard disk as part of the install process, which is all very easy BUT it will leave the Acrobat 4.0 folder fully operational on the hard disk. In this case, Create Adobe PDF will still use the Distiller 4.0. But: If you remove Acrobat 4.0 before doing the install, Acrobat 5 installed will ask for the original CD to be inserted, once verified it will install into a folder called Acrobat 5.0 and Create Adobe PDF will use the distillerlib helper that is in the Distiller 5.0 folder."
