Costar LabelWriters and Mac OS 8.5: another follow-up

CNET staff
Marty Sachs had problems using the latest updates for his Costar LabelWriter and Mac OS 8.5, when trying to connect over an AppleTalk network (via NetLabelWriter XL printer driver). He received the following reply (which echoes a previous item on MacFixIt):
"Since the release of the new Macintosh Networking Architecture, namely Open Transport, Costar has had many problems with getting its AppleTalk and Ethernet Interface boxes to work properly. Apparently, Apple has changed some of the core design of the protocol and went away from the Classic Macintosh LocalTalk design. Costar has exhausted a large amount of development resources, both money and time, in trying to fix the problem. What has been discovered is that it would take a complete redesign of both the hardware and the Chooser Driver software to correct the problem.

Costar is unable to provide support for its device under any Open Transport configuration. I would suggest looking into an application called PortShare Pro. This is an application that allows you to share a device over an Ethernet network. We set it up here and it has been working great for us."
