Quark crashes A reader claims that his Mac crashes if Quark XPress is open while trying to open a font with Suitcase 3.0. Possibly related, Glenn Fleishman writes that opening certain Quark documents consistently crashed his Mac. The problem was eventually traced to a corrupted ATM Deluxe Preferences file and some possibly corrupt fonts. Both users were using the latest Quark 4.01r1 update.

Iomega Zip Tools freeze? John Scherman claims that he gets a freeze when trying to open the Iomega Drive Options control panel for his Zip Plus on his Mac 6400. Iomega Tech Support told him that this is a problem that crops up on certain Macs, and probably only when using the software obtained from the Iomega CD. They are working on a fix. Meanwhile, turning off virtual memory works-around the problem. (Don Koller reports a similar problem.)

Titanic screen-saver and FreePPP 2.6.2 conflict? FreePPP 2.6.2 fixed problems that previous versions had with certain screen-savers. Still, Mike Lambert found that FreePPP 2.6.2 froze during its attempt to connect - if a screen-saver downloaded from the Titanic movie web site (plus a related extension called "CineMac Helper v1.2.2") was also enabled . Disabling the two files eliminated the problem.

QuickTime and Netscape Regarding the possible crash-inducing conflict between QuickTime 3.0 beta and Netscape browsers (as reported last time), several users said they did not have this problem. Karl Gramp did confirm the problem on his Mac; reverting to QuickTime 2.5 eliminated the crashes. Josh Hodas writes: "Almost certainly the readers who get crashes have neglected to install the new version of the Quicktime Plug-in that comes with QT 3.0. Doing so will solve the problem."
