CopyAgent/TFI/Documents to Go work-around Regarding the CopyAgent/TFI/Documents to Go conflict mentioned previously, Beniamino Cenci Goga offers this work-around: "Remove the file "Documents To Go CM" from the Contextual Menu Items Folder in System Folder. TFI should no longer cause crashes and you can still drag and drop the Word files over the Documents to Go icon for translation." SwitchRes crashing bug: a work-around Stéphane Madrau sent us a work-around for the previously reported crashing bug in SwitchRes 2.4: "The bug appears only when the checkbox 'Apply again when this application is brought to the front' (in the in the individual Applications settings) is enabled. This shouldn't have any side effect for games, because you generally don't switch from games to the Finder and back." The next version of SwitchRes should have a fix for the problem that will allow this option to be used safely. Illustrator 9 problem confirmed by Adobe Last month, we posted an item from Paul Ranson concerning a placement problem with the Curves adjustment layer in Adobe Illustrator 9. Paul has now received a reply from Adobe on this matter. They told him that Illustrator 9 "does not support" the use of grouped curve adjustment layers in Photoshop documents. The work arounds would be to "flatten" the Photoshop file before placing in Illustrator 9 or use Illustrator 8. There is no fix in the works for this as "Illustrator has moved from a PostScript base to a PDF base for placed images." Password Security a FireWire PowerBooks: a follow-up Last March, we posted a recovery method for FireWire PowerBook hard drives damaged after installing and enabling Apple's Password Security. As had been suggested, but not clearly detailed, another recovery method would be to swap the drive out. In particular, a MacFixIt reader writes: "Temporarily install the hard drive of the FireWire PowerBook into a SCSI PowerBook. The Password Security control panel now works properly. You can then boot and turn the control panel off. Delete the Password Security control panel to prevent future problems. Then return the drive into the FireWire PowerBook. No data is lost! By the way, I understand that Apple is working on an update of Password Security Control Panel to work on the FireWire PowerBooks."
