Apple Multimedia Update 1.0 consists of: (1) Apple Audio Extension 1.0.5 which provides improved support for playing audio CDs with virtual memory turned on and additional support for USB audio input devices; (2) New ATI Graphics Drivers which improve performance for Open GL games on systems using ATI Rage 128 Pro as well as certain Final Cut Pro display functions. Mac OS 9.0.4 and a Mac with built-in USB ports are required. Currently, this Update appears to be available only via the Software Update control panel; it should be posted to Apple's Software Downloads soon. (Thanks, Justin Jay and others.) Apple Video Extension 1.0 is out. It will restore access to all available resolutions with built-in video and video cards on NuBus systems and Non PCI PowerBooks. Ronald Leroux reports that it "works perfectly on my PowerMac 6100/60av and my old Apple RGB High-Resolution Monitor. I was able to switch back and forth between 640x400 and 640x480 without problem." The extension requires Mac OS 9.0 or greater. Note: This issue was covered in Troubleshooting Mac OS 9.0.4 (see the section titled: "Monitor resolution oddities: 512x384 and little else"). Apple Memory Guide 05-00 is out. This May 2000 version adds sections on the iBook Special Edition and the PowerBook (FireWire). The AMG will be updated approximately every other month.
